Del Monego Markus

Best Sommelier of the World 1998

Permanent Member of the GJE
Country: Germany

Markus del Monego belongs to the new generation of sommelier, and he worked, tasted, and travelled so hard that he managed to win the "Best Sommelier of the World" award at an age where some are still finishing their studies…

Like Olivier Poussier, Philippe Faure-Brac or Andreas Larsson, he managed to leverage this prestigious award without losing his simplicity! Like them, modesty is one of his main features, but it doesn't prevent him from using his constant sense of humor, very enjoyable by his friends!

The European Grand Jury
jeudi, 01 septembre 2005
Set up by François Mauss in 1996, the GJE wishes to see itself as an alternative way of classifying the great wines of the world compared to the individual notes
of the best critics worldwide, particularly the English and Americans from whom GJE has adopted the method of scoring out of 100 points to facilitate international comparisons.

Its method: regularly bring together at least 12 of its permanent members, from at least 6 different countries of the European Union (and Switzerland) in order to have them blind taste a maximum of 68 wines in two daily 3-hour session, under strict legal control.
